Hi, I'm Will.

I'm a husband, business owner, tech aficionado, and web designer & developer. I also own an online learning production company with my wife, Ren. This website, though, is dedicated to sharing resources and thoughts around a collection of things I enjoy around web design, development, and general tech stuff.

A week before my 30th birthday,

I was sitting in a hot tub with some friends and I was asked 3 questions pertaining to the last year of my life:

I found that my answer to these 3 questions were a pretty good description of who I am as an individual. We’re always changing, so the time-bounded-ness (I’m going to make up words) of these questions worked well.

What am I thankful for?

What am I looking forward to?

Getting back to a healthy lifestyle.

The nature of a priority is that you can only have one. My first was my relationship with Ren, next was my business, then somewhere further down the list was my health.

Starting a business requires your constant attention and focus. Mix in a new relationship (with your business partner none-the-less) and you have a recipe for little sleep, lots of frozen pizza, and no time for working out.

Thankfully Ren was building my business and our relationship with me, so she’s been understanding of my unhealthy habits. But I’m glad to finally have our business in a place where I feel like I can start spending more time focusing on my health.

What have I learned this year?

Working too much kills.

It’s taken me 30 years to realize it, but I only have a limited amount of brain power in a day.

I grew up thinking hard work solves all problems- and to an extent I still believe that it does (I hate the cliché “work smarter not harder”). But I’ve also realized that working harder doesn’t mean neglecting some basic biological necessities (sleeping well, eating well, etc.).

I’m not great at it, but I’m giving myself permission to take vacations and allow myself to stop at the end of the day if my brain feels like mush instead of working on myriad of things that I could be working on. I definitely still have the list of things that I could be working on, but since giving myself this permission, the things that I do work on are much higher quality.

What I Believe

You should love what you do.
I truly believe that if you don't enjoy the work you're doing, you should make a change. We spend the vast majority of our lives working, and if you're not enjoying that, you need to make a change. I love web design & development, business and tech. Do you love what you're doing?
A website is your online home.
And just like your home is unique, so should your website be unique. Now, I'm a huge fan of templates, but I use them as a starting point. I hate having to tell people, "I don't know how to do that" or, "you can't do that with this template." (That's part of the reason I became an expert in CSS)
You always have to be learning.
Honestly, with the way technology is moving and the advancements in Squarespace's platform and new CSS code, if you're not learning, you're going to be out of a job. That's the bad news- the good news is that the more you know, the more you can grow your skillset, your competitiveness, and your business.
